A donation of CAD$10,000 (£5,600/$7,300/€6,400) has been made to Canadian Women and Sport by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC).

The money will be used by on the "Gender Equity Playbook" project which includes an e-module, a gender equity audit and action-planning services.

Formerly known as the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity, the organisation is dedicated to creating "an equitable and inclusive Canadian sport and physical activity system".

It is hoped that this will empower women and girls and challenge the status quo.

The COC donated the money to mark International Women's Day yesterday.

"Canadian Women and Sport is committed to building a better Canadian sport system – from the field of play to the boardroom," said the organisation's chief executive Allison Sandmeyer-Graves.

"We are so grateful for this donation which will be put to good use for our programmes aiming to advance gender equity.

"We value our relationship with the Canadian Olympic Committee in building even stronger communities together."
