The International Bobsleigh and Sliding Federation (IBSF) has cancelled a women's monobob race and development camp due to be held in Lake Placid in the United States because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The IBSF cited "travel restrictions and general concerns following the spread of the COVID-19 virus" as the reason for the cancellation of both the race, due to take place on April 3, and the camp, scheduled to start on March 23.

In a statement the IBSF said: "We would like to thank the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority and the track management in Lake Placid for their great support in this challenging time for all of us."

Worldwide there are now more than 156,000 cases of coronavirus and more than 5,000 deaths, while in the United States there are 2,499 reported cases and 55 deaths.

On Friday, United States President Donald Trump declared a national emergency in the country and allowed the Federal Government to access emergency relief funding.
