Luge Federation of Georgia President Felix Kumaritashvili, the coach and uncle of the luger killed in a training accident hours before the Vancouver 2010 Opening Ceremony, has died.

According to the International Luge Federation (FIL), Kumaritashvili passed away during a training camp in Sigulda in Latvia.

No further details of his death have been published.

Kumaritashvili coaches three athletes who attended the camp in the Latvian capital.

He was the coach and uncle to Nodar Kumaritashvili, who was killed following a crash in a training accident on the day of the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Last month marked the 10th anniversary of Kumaritashvili's death, which remains the most recent on-track fatality in luge.

Nodar Kumaritashvili died after losing control of his sled during the final turn on the Vancouver 2010 track at Whistler.

The track was described as too fast and too dangerous by some officials and competitors, but the accident was deemed an "unforeseeable fatal accident" by the FIL.
