Olympic bronze medallist Viktor Axelsen of Denmark secured his first All England Open Badminton Championships title with victory over top seed Chou Tien-chen in the men's singles final in Birmingham.

Axelsen beat Chou 21-13, 21-14 to end his long wait to lift the trophy at the Badminton World Federation Super 1000 event.

The tournament at Arena Birmingham in England will be the last played until at least April 12 after the BWF suspended all of its competitions in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Victory for Axelsen, last year's runner-up, saw him add to his recent triumphs at the Barcelona Masters and the Indonesia Open.

The world number seven dominated the contest with Chen from start to finish on his way to pocketing the $77,000 (£63,000/€69,000) prize money.

Second seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei overcame top seed Chen Yufei of China to clinch the women's singles crown.

Tai won 21-19, 21-15 against the defending champion to claim her third All England Open crown in the last four years.

Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota of Japan, seeded third, reigned supreme in the women's doubles following a 21-13, 21-15 victory over China's Du Yue and Lin Yinhui.

In the mixed doubles, Indonesia's Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti defeated Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-15, 17-21, 21-8 in the final.

Japan's Hiroyuki Endo and Yuta Watanabe upset top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo 21-18, 12-21, 21-19 to seal the men's doubles title.
