Skate Canada's 2020 Ice Summit, the national body's Annual General Meeting (AGM), has been cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic surrounding COVID-19.

Originally scheduled for May 28 to 30 in Moncton in New Brunswick, the event will no longer go ahead with plans now in place to hold the AGM remotely.

Plans are also in place to allow members to participate in the AGM online through live streaming.

In a statement, Skate Canada said: "These decisions were made with the best interests of all participants in mind given the exceptional circumstances presented by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

"Skate Canada will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and we are committed to the health and safety of all our members and registrants.

"Our thanks to Skate Canada New Brunswick for their gracious offer to host Canada's skating family this spring."

A day previous, Skate Canada announced they were suspending all of their activities.

More than 1,400 cases have been confirmed in Canada of COVID-19, with more than 350,000 worldwide.
