The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) have announced changes to the Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar in May due to the coronavirus crisis.

Four events have been postponed, with dates yet to be confirmed, while a four-star tournament in Poland's capital Warsaw from May 27 to 31 has been cancelled.

Another four-star event, set for Ostrava in the Czech Republic from May 20 to 24, has been postponed, while the three-star event in Jurmala in Latvia will also be given another date.

Itapema in Brazil was due to host a four-star event from May 6 to 10 which has also been postponed, while the one-star competition in Tuan Chau Island in Vietnam is another to be moved.

"The FIVB will continue to work closely with the organisers to find the best alternative dates for the events to be held," a statement said.

"The FIVB's top priority is to protect the health and wellbeing of the players, officials and fans.

"The FIVB is regularly monitoring the evolving situation in full cooperation with the World Health Organization, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and other relevant international and national health and sports authorities."

Events set to take place in June will also be assessed, the FIVB said.

To date, there have been more than 386,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 which has resulted in more than 16,000 deaths.

The IOC accepted for the first time on Sunday (March 22) that Tokyo 2020 could be postponed, and have given themselves a four-week window to discuss potential scenarios.
