insidethegames has learned Team GB Live has contacted all customers who have either purchased travel packages or tickets for the Games, pushed back to next year in response to growing international concern over the coronavirus pandemic.

Team GB Live head of sales and marketing Kevin Smith said anybody who has bought a "ticket inclusive travel package" – which can include flights and hotels, or both – has been given the opportunity to use the same package for the rescheduled event.

Customers have the option to cancel and can receive a full refund on their package if they no longer wish to travel.

Those who only purchased Tokyo 2020 tickets through the company have been told to await further information as the ticketing process for the first Olympics in history to be postponed has not been confirmed.

It is not yet clear whether tickets bought for this year's Games will be valid for the rescheduled event.

In a statement sent to insidethegames, a Tokyo 2020 spokesperson said organisers would not comment on the consequences of the postponement.

"We are reviewing all individual aspects of the postponement of the Games and will announce information as soon as possible," the spokesperson added.

ATRs are among the dozens of stakeholders impacted by the first postponement of an Olympic Games in history.

"All of our 'Ticket Inclusive Travel Package' customers have been contacted via email and offered the choice of cancellation and a full refund, or the opportunity to transfer their package to the rearranged Games," Team GB Live, operated by Sports Travel & Hospitality Group Limited and approved by the British Olympic Association, said in a statement to insidethegames.

"It is important to note that we provide full financial protection for our package holidays through our bond held with ABTA (for non-flight packages) and through ATOL protection (for flight-inclusive packages)."
