International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has postponed a women’s high-performance training camp until 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The governing body have already been forced to cancel events due to take place between March and May.

The high-performance camp had been scheduled to take place during July in Finland.

A decision was taken by the IIHF to move the event to 2021.

The IIHF said the decision followed consideration of the “health and safety of all participants and the effect of the pandemic around the world”.

Organisational arrangements were also revealed as part of the reason for the IIHF to move the event.

The event is now expected to take place in the summer of 2021, with an adjusted schedule and will replace the hockey development camp.

The IIHF say the rescheduled event will provide an opportunity to develop young female athletes and support staff prior to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Over 300 participants from over 40 countries were expected to participate in the invitational camp.

This would have included some of the top female junior-age players.

A Women’s Hockey Summit had been planned to take place during the camp in July.

The IIHF said this may still be arranged later this year.

A date and venue will be decided by the IIHF Women’s Committee.
