Filipino taekwondo athletes have been given training programmes to carry out at home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The country's stars are currently still preparing for the Asian Olympic qualification tournament, which remains scheduled for Jordan's capital Amman between June 5 and 7.

However, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics have now been pushed back to no later than the summer of 2021 because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Training sessions for the Filipino squad were suspended due to a quarantine which was introduced in Luzon.

"I'm sure that there are personal regimens assigned to them, at least in the confines of their respective dwelling places," said the Philippines Taekwondo Federation's Stephen Fernandez to the Manila Times.

Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Samuel Morrison, Kurt Barbosa and Pauline Lopez are due to lead the Philippines team in Amman, should the event go ahead as planned.

Only four athletes are allowed to be sent by any country – two males and two females.

Arven Alcantara and Kirstie Alora are also in line to be part of the Filipino team.

"They are the top five for the selection," Fernandez said.

"However, we can still pick from the others if the need arises."

Chinese city Wuxi was initially due to host the Asian qualifier, but it was moved to Amman due to COVID-19.
