World Taekwondo Oceania (WTO) have postponed the upcoming Tahiti Open and the Oceania Para Open Championships, which were set to take place in Tahiti from June 5 to 7, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The President's Cup was also set to be held over the same weekend, with WTO now asking athletes to prepare for the Tokyo Olympics, rescheduled to begin on July 23 next year.
"I would encourage all athletes that have qualified for the Games to keep training and stay positive as I known this news will have come as a massive disappointment to them," said John Kotsifas, President of WTO.
"The postponement and cancellation of all events worldwide gives us an opportunity to address other matters that we, so far, have not had time to deal with, such as updating our constitution, rules, regulations and policies."
There are more than 739,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus worldwide.
To date more than 35,000 people have died from the virus.
