Panam Sports held the first edition of the "Expert Connection" series which attracted more than 600 athletes.

Sports psychologist Jose Maria Buceta featured in the first video, which was streamed on the Panam Sports Channel

Panam Sports launched "Expert Connection", a weekly video series, to offer advice and help for athletes and coaches during the coronavirus pandemic.

The series is being shown on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with the programme designed for English speakers on Tuesdays and Spanish speakers on Thursdays.

Buceta was joined by more than 600 athletes on his video, with many submitting questions before it had begun and others utilising the chat feature on the Panam Sports Channel to ask for guidance.

"Panam Sports is thrilled with the amount of participation from athletes, coaches and National Olympic Committees across the region and the beneficial discussion that was generated by their questions," a statement said.

"The organisation hopes that the athletes who joined the conversation now feel more equipped to handle the stress and anxiety produced by this worldwide pandemic and will utilise the strategies presented to maintain a positive outlook and strong mental focus."

The next video will feature United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee senior sports psychologist Sean McCann on Tuesday (April 21).

McCann is set to give a presentation entitled "Mental Skills and Strategies to Cope with Uncertainty and Distraction" and will also answer questions from athletes.
