The International Biathlon Union (IBU) Executive Board has established principles to provide financial support to organising committees that lost significant revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funding will ensure that those who lost money due to either restrictions or cancellations during the 2019/20 winter season will be reimbursed.

Other issues were discussed on the video conference such as the potential impact of COVID-19 on its upcoming events including the Summer Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding in Germany in August and the IBU Congress in Prague in September.

A decision on this will be made at the next executive meeting on June 6 and 7.

It also approved the competition schedule for the IBU Cup and the IBU Junior Cup following last month's announcement of the IBU World Cup competition schedule for the 2020/21 season.

The Executive Board are also continuing to plan for different scenarios based on the progression of the pandemic that has almost completely stopped sport around the world.

To date, there are more than 3.94 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide, resulting in the deaths of over 271,000 people.
