A decision on whether this year's International Floorball Federation (IFF) Men's World Floorball Championship in Helsinki can go ahead is set to be made in September.

The IFF Central Board said it felt it was important for the Men's World Championship and the Women's Under-19 World Floorball Championship to take place "even with a smaller number of teams" than to cancel the two events.

The ruling body will wait until the end of the September to decide the status of the Men's World Championship, scheduled to run from December 4 to 12.

Preparations for the competition, one of the IFF's flagship events, in the Finnish capital have largely continued as planned.

The tournament schedule was published earlier this month, while the IFF has also announced a series of sustainability initiatives it plans to implement at the event.

"The Central Board evaluated the situation with the World Floorball Championships in 2020 and felt that it is important to play the events, even with a smaller number of teams, than to cancel them," said IFF secretary general John Liljelund.

"The main reasons being the 'once in a lifetime' for the Under-19 World Floorball Championship and financial reasons for the organisers and the IFF.

"The IFF is now working towards a 'Go/No-Go' date for the Under-19 World Floorball Championship around mid-June and end of September for the World Floorball Championship together with the organisers, during these unsure times."

The Women's Under-19 World Floorball Championship is due to be held in Swedish City Uppsala in September, following its postponement from the original dates in May.
