Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided to end the year's events after discussions surrounding the impact on the 2020 competition programme.

In a statement declaring the news, IFCPF said: "Football is a powerful tool to bring people together and certainly something which will unite us all following the current worldwide epidemic.

"However, it is felt at this time that, with the current medical emergency, football should take a back seat to more pressing matters.

"The pressures placed on individuals, families, clubs, organisations and countries are enormous and members should be allowed the right amount of time to settle before we start preparing for international football competition."

Guidance came from the IFCPF Medical Committee who also recommended that countries should have a minimum of three to four months of preparation leading up to competitions.

Events affected include the 2020 Nations Cup and the Nations Championships, which will now both take place in 2021 in place of previously scheduled regional tournaments.

The four-year cycle for competitions will stay in place, meaning competitions originally scheduled for 2020 and now taking place in 2021 will be followed by the next editions in 2024.

Another event to be rescheduled will be the Women's World Cup, now taking place in 2021, while the inaugural IFCPF Champions League, scheduled for June 2020, is under review.

There are still talks that the competition could take place later in the year, with the Local Organising Committee in Barcelona set to contact clubs about the feasibility of hosting the competition in December.

Once established, the Champions League will become an annual event.
