Taekwondo Canada has announced the appointment of David Harris as its new executive director after he spent seven years in the same position at Oakville Soccer Club.

His years with North America's largest amateur football club and Canada's largest amateur sports club followed on from years in marketing roles.

Harris was previously the national sales and marketing manager for the Messier Project/Bauer Performance Group, marketing manager with Ontario Lottery and Gaming, director of marketing at the John Labatt Centre as well as the director of operations for the Mississauga IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League. 

President of Taekwondo Canada Phil Power said: "After an extensive search, Taekwondo Canada is thrilled to have David as the new executive director.

"His vast experience coupled with his business background make him the perfect fit for a rebuilding organisation."

Elsewhere, the body is looking for individuals to become part of some of its committees such as the Governance and Nominations Committee, Membership Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee.

For the Governance and Nominations Committee positions will be elected by the members while the other two committees will be elected by the Board of Directors.

The deadline for these applications is June 20 with a list of full responsibilities for each committee being described on Taekwondo Canada's website.

Canada have won one silver and one bronze medal in taekwondo in Olympic history.
