The President of the Austrian Teqball Federation, Alexandra Koncar, last week rung the traditional opening bell to signal the start of trading on stock exchanges across Europe.

Koncar, who has been the President of the Federation since its launch in September 2019, is a former spokeswoman for the Austrian Ministry of Sport and a communications and media expert.

The idea behind the ringing of the opening bell stems from the New York Stock Exchange, which each day invites personalities from business, sport, culture, entertainment and science to ring a bell to mark the start of trading.

Currently the ringing takes place with backdrop urging people to "choose optimism".

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, bell ringers are doing so virtually, as was the case with Koncar.

The opening bell  initiative is the brainchild of Börse Social Network, and dates back to 2015.
