Whitehead, the 34-year-old double leg amputee from Nottingham, is the reigning world champion in the 200metres T42 event, while 19-year-old Whiley from Birmingham is a young wheelchair tennis star tipped for medal success at the London 2012 Paralympics.

The Paralympic duo join the four other Cadbury Athlete Ambassadors in swimming star Rebecca Adlington, BMX rider Shanaze Reade, wheelchair rugby player Mandip Sehmi and sprint kayak legend Tim Brabants to complete a final line-up featuring three Olympians and three Paralympians.

"I'm really excited to work with Cadbury as an Athlete Ambassador and their support will be very important to me as we get even closer to Game-time," said Whitehead, who is also a multiple leg amputee marathon world record holder.

"Hopefully together we can help inspire the nation to get behind all of our British Olympic and Paralympic athletes."

Whiley, who is the wheelchair tennis world number 13 in singles and eight in doubles, added: "I'm delighted to be working with Cadbury and thankful for their support as I prepare for the Paralympic Games.

"With a year to go and having just competed in my first Wimbledon, I'm so excited about London 2012 and can't wait to compete."

The team of six will also join with volunteers and employees at Cadbury to inspire people from across the UK to come together and play their way to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games through Cadbury Spots v Stripes.

Norman Brodie, the general manager of Cadbury's London 2012 campaign, said: "We are delighted that Richard and Jordanne are joining our team of Athlete Ambassadors.

"Cadbury is proud to be supporting the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and we're thrilled to be able to support six of the UK's brightest medal contenders as they prepare for the challenge.

"We hope that their involvement in Cadbury Spots v Stripes will inspire people up and down the country to get involved and get into the Olympic spirit."
