Netflix is to release a documentary about the Paralympic Movement, entitled Rising Phoenix, in more than 190 countries.

The film's release was planned to coincide with Tokyo 2020, which has now been postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It will now be a part of the celebrations leading up to the Paralympics next year.

BAFTA-nominated directors Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui directed the film, which was produced by HTYT Films and Passion Pictures in association with Ventureland and Misfits Entertainment.

Featured athletes include the United States' seven-time Paralympic wheelchair racing champion Tatyana McFadden and Paralympic and two-time world champion wheelchair fencer Bebe Vio, with the documentary's title inspired by the Italian's nickname.

Two-time Paralympic sprinter Jonnie Peacock of Britain is also included.

"I was so excited at that first meeting," he said, as reported by The Telegraph

"Their vision for it, what they wanted to do with it.

"How they were going to do it properly.

"I just jumped at it, it was incredible."

Australian swimmer Ellie Cole, French athlete Jean-Baptiste Alaize, American archer Matt Stutzman, Chinese powerlifter Cui Zhe, Australian wheelchair rugby player Ryley Batt and South African athlete Ntando Mahlangu complete the star-studded line-up.
