World Para Ice Hockey has said competitions, development of the sport and strengthening its operations are the organisation's three strategic priorities under a new two-year plan for the sport.

The governing body says it 2020 to 2022 strategic plan highlights the mission, vision and strategic objectives for the sport in the new cycle.

The plan was development over a 12-month period, with extensive consultation reportedly taking place with members and stakeholders.

The process coincided with the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Governance Review and incorporated findings and recommendations from the ongoing review.

"World Para Ice Hockey would like to thank all the Para athletes, our membership, volunteers, partner organisations, staff and administrators who contributed to the development of the 2020-2022 Strategic Plan," said Michelle Laflamme, World Para Ice Hockey manager.

"We believe this plan reflects the needs and aspirations of our sport.

"We have come a long way through the work and effort of innumerable people through almost five decades.

"Now it is our duty to bring the plan into operation and make our vision become a reality."

World Para Ice Hockey said its plan includes a vision "To be the most popular and inclusive team Para sport".

The mission of the organisation was determined as being "To lead, develop and promote the sport of Para Ice Hockey".

Development has been outlined as one of three strategic priorities, with the organisation aiming to attract new athletes through development and high-performance programmes.

World Para Ice Hockey has also aimed to establish a long-term strategy showcasing sustainable, entertaining events as part of its focus on competitions.

The governing body has additionally targeted strengthening its operations through good governance, transparency and knowledge-sharing.
