The Qatar Handball Association has announced details of a new tournament for teams that are champions of their continent.

The Qatar International Championship for men's continental team champions is scheduled to be held from December 25 to 29.

It is set to feature hosts and Asian champions Qatar, European champions Spain, South American champions Argentina and African runners-up Tunisia.

The event has been established to aid Qatar's preparations for the World Handball Championships, scheduled to take place in Egypt in January 2021.

The Qatari team is set to begin training in November with its preparation programme also set to include an external training camp and experimental matches prior to the International Championship.

Qatar qualified for the World Handball Championships by virtue of winning the men's Asian Championship in Kuwait earlier this year, when they beat South Korea 33-21.

The Qatar Handball Association also confirmed the men's domestic league championship will restart on September 10, after it was paused due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The season is scheduled to conclude on October 4, with the 2020-2021 domestic season set to begin in November.
