Karate and dancesport are set to be inducted as regular members of the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation and the Dancesport Council of the Philippines will be inducted as members of the Philippine Olympic Committee during the organisation's General Assembly on Friday (September 4), as reported by Inquirer

"We have been recognised by the World Karate Federation since November 2018 and also the Asian Karate Federation," said Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation President Richard Lim.

"I’m looking forward to Philippine Olympic Committee recognition."

Karate is set to make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 next year, with eight gold medals at stake. 

Southeast Asian Games champions Jamie Christine Lim and Junna Tsukii are aiming to qualify for the Games, now postponed until July 23 to August 8 2021. 

The Philippines also performed well in the dancesport contest at last year's Southeast Asian Games. 

The hosts won 10 gold medals in the sport.
