The first instalment of The Life and Trial of Oscar Pistorius will be released on ESPN+ on September 27, with the subsequent parts televised over the next three nights.

Pistorius was jailed after shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a locked bathroom door in February 2013.

The six-time Paralympic gold-medallist was initially found guilty of manslaughter after he claimed he had mistaken Steenkamp for a burglar.

The Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the ruling in 2015 and convicted him of murder, handing him a six-year jail term before increasing the sentence to 13 years in 2017.

Directed by Daniel Gordon and produced by John Battsek, the documentary features interviews with several figures closest to Pistorius' story.

The film also looks back on Pistorius’ sprinting career as the South African who had both of his legs amputated at 11 months old rose to prominence at Athens 2004, when he won gold as a teenager.

Pistorius pushed to compete against able-bodied athletes before winning over officials to enter the Olympic and Paralympic Games at London 2012.

But Pistorius then fell from grace less than a year later when he was arrested in connection with the shooting and killing of his girlfriend.

"The story of Oscar Pistorius is remarkable in its complexity,2 said Gordon.

"It's at once inspirational and harrowing and provides a lens of insight into a breadth of issues - from gender based violence to disability rights, racial inequality and media frenzy.

"My hope is that the film gives audiences additional context and layers to a story they think they know."
