Boccia UK has launched a new scheme to try and uncover three potential stars of the future, with the target to earn them selection for either Paris 2024 or a future Paralympic Games.

The scheme has been unveiled as part of the organisation changing the way it approaches selection for its World Class Programme.

Boccia UK say that through the scheme they are "looking to select athletes who possess the skills and ability to progress through the UK Player Pathway and with the highest potential to perform at the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024, LA 2028 and beyond."

All applications are welcome, although the organisation is keen to encourage female athletes with potential to come forward as new rules are due to come in following the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, meaning there will be more female only medal events.

Among the criteria for applicants are the potential to be competitive in international boccia within their classification, a demonstration of excellent performance behaviours with a positive attitude and the ability to commit towards a four year campaign with an initial target of the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

Applications close at 5pm BST on October 30.

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, any candidates shortlisted for the scheme will be supported remotely until at least March 2021.

The pandemic has caused the cancellation of all Boccia International Sports Federation events in 2020.
