Laroche won the Leadership in Sport Award, recognising a 40-year career which has seen him coach many of Canada's best Para-athletes in Quebec.

André Viger, Jacques Martin and Diane Roy - who between them won 29 Paralympic medals, nine of which were gold - were all coached by Laroche.

Kisser, who hopes to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics next year, won the first-ever People’s Choice Award for Most Viral Moment of the Year.

At the height of coronavirus restrictions, Kisser built her own pool to train in and chronicled the process on social media.

It garnered international attention and earned Kisser this award by a public vote.

Seven awards were handed out in total, with International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and four-time Olympic ice hockey champion Hayley Wickenheiser taking the Social Responsibility Award.

The Canadian Sport Awards are organised by AthletesCAN, the association of Canada’s national-team athletes.

This was the 43rd edition of the awards, with a virtual ceremony held given the ongoing pandemic.
