The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are due to be broadcast on six television channels in Thailand, the country's Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has announced.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics are now scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8 2021, having been postponed by 12 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Thailand currently has 18 athletes qualified across seven sports and Ratchakitprakarn said he was hopeful the athletes would bring "a good name" to Thailand through their performances, as reported by Bangkok Post.

"I hope the Thai athletes will bring a good name to the country and we have also finalised arrangements for the Thai fans to enjoy the Tokyo Olympics," said Ratchakitprakarn.

"It is confirmed that the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will happen.

"Japan is now moving forward with necessary measures to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic so that everyone attending the Olympic Games next year will be safe.

"IOC President Mr Thomas Bach is also very confident that the Games will be successful because IOC is working hard alongside the host nation."

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics is scheduled to be broadcast on six Thai channels - NBT, ThaiPBS, New18, True4U, GMM TV and PPTV HD with action also due to be broadcast on mobile platforms.

Thailand currently has athletes qualified for Tokyo 2020 in taekwondo, shooting, sailing, windsurfing, cycling, equestrian and boxing.
