The winner of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games mascot animation competition has been revealed.

A submission called "The Little Cube" has been selected by organisers in the Chinese host city.

Three sporty robots, named Congcong, Lianlian and Chenchen, and known as the "smart triplets", were unveiled as the Hangzhou 2022 mascots in April.

The competition was open to everyone and aimed at finding mascot animation products with distinctive features, liveliness and easy dissemination, Hangzhou 2022 said.

In "The Little Cube", all three mascots practice some of the sports on the Asian Games programme around Hangzhou.

They are joined by an army of white cube characters.

According to Chinese state news agency Xinhua, the mascots have been well received since they were revealed.

A total of 4,633 submissions for the mascot designs were received by the Organising Committee with the final robot characters created by Zhang Wen and Yang Hongyi, lecturers from the China Academy of Art.

The 2022 Asian Games are due to run from September 10 to 25, with 40 sports on the programme and more than 10,000 athletes expected to compete.
