France’s Charline Picon and Israel’s Yoav Cohen have strengthened their positions at the top of the standings after the second day’s racing at the RS:X European Championships in Vilamoura.

Olympic champion Picon topped the women’s standings overnight by three points, with Poland’s Zofia Noceti Klepacka her closest challenger.

Picon placed 10th in the opening contest of the day, but recorded victories in the subsequent two races.

She now tops the standings with 10 points after six races, with her 10th-place finish currently discarded from the total.

Israel’s Katy Spychakov lies second on 17 points, following two runners-up finishes and a fifth place today.

Britain’s Emma Wilson completes the top three positions, aided by a victory in the opening race of the day.

Cohen appears in control of the men’s competition after opening up an 11-point lead to his compatriot Yoav Omer at the top of the standings.

The Israeli windsurfer has recorded three second-place finishes in his opening six races, along with results of fourth, fifth and seventh.

The latter is currently discarded from his total, leaving him with 15 points after two days of competition.

Omer is second on 26 points, while Greece’s Byron Kokkalanis is third on 32.

Israel’s Daniel Basik Tashtash tops the men’s youth standings on five points, following six consecutive victories.

Spain’s Aurelio Terry-Valle remains his nearest challenger on 13, edging Israel’s Adir Tawil on countback.

Russia’s Yana Reznikova remains at the top of the standings in the women’s youth event.

Reznikova has six points after four race wins and two second-places finishes.

She is two points clear of Israel’s Naama Greenberg.

Greenberg’s team mate Linoy Schwartz Bargota is third on 14.

The European Championships had initially been due to take place in Athens during March, before being postponed to November.

Vilamoura stepped in to host the event after the Hellenic Sailing Federation withdrew from staging the event in Greece’s capital.

The European Championships will serve as a qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The top windsurfer in the men’s and women’s event will secure a place for their country, should the nation be yet to earn a berth.
