Montague won two honours as the black-tie event was held virtually in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Montague, the women’s lightweight world champion in 2019, won Best Female Athlete and Best Performance awards this year.

The Best Performance honour was a nod to her victory over Finn Jenni Kivioja in the 2020 Oceania Open final, via arm-bar submission.

Kazakhstan's Bagdat Zhubanysh, another world champion in 2019, was name Best Male Athlete.

Muhammad Mokaev of England picked up the Best Junior Athlete gong.

"Thank you for your solidarity this year and for coming together to celebrate your achievements with us at the 2020 IMMAF Amateur MMA Awards," IMMAF President Kerrith Brown told those who tuned in to the virtual ceremony.

"We are ready to come back stronger in 2021 at every level, more transparent, better structured and excelling in all areas of sport development and governance, in every corner of the globe. 

"We will continue to strive for sport recognition to build on our collective work of the last seven years."

A number of IMMAF member federations were also honoured during the ceremony.

Most Proactive National Federation went to India, Host Federation of the Year to Bahrain, Social Impact to Estonia and Mexico was recognised for being Best on Social Media.

The award for Best IMMAF Educator was given to Colombia, Best National Federation for MMA Coaching was won by South Africa and Wales collected the Best IMMAF Mobile Application User honour.

The Mexican national body also collected the IMMAF Anti-Doping Award.

The IMMAF continues to be blocked in its bid for recognition from the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), and chief executive Densign White labelled GAISF a "Gentleman’s Club" in June after the IMMAF's latest bid for recognition was turned down.
