Francesco Friedrich clinched his fifth two-man bobsleigh victory of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup season in Innsbruck.

Pushed by Thorsten Margis, the Olympic and world champion finished with a total time of 1min 43.29sec. 

It was Friedrich's fifth win out of six two-man bobsleigh races this season. 

Only fellow German Johannes Lochner has beaten him, doing so at the same venue yesterday. 

This time Lochner took second place alongside Christian Rasp in 1:43.45. 

In third was Oskars Kibermanis of Latvia, the European champion, who was pushed by Matiss Miknis and finished in 1:43.64. 

Friedrich leads the World Cup standings at the halfway point with 1,335 points, followed by Lochner on 1,239 and Kibermanis on 1,114.

Competition also took place in the two-woman bobsleigh.

It was an all-German podium, with Laura Nolte triumphing alongside Deborah Levi in 1:47.00. 

Kim Kalicki, pushed by Ann-Christin Strack, was second in 1:47.30, while Olympic champion Mariama Jamanka and Leonie Fiebig were 0.45sec off the mark to come third. 

Jamanka did enough to maintain her lead in the World Cup standings on 635, but Kalicki is just behind her on 620.

Katrin Beierl of Austria is third with 586. 

The IBSF World Cup is scheduled to stay in Innsbruck, with men's and women's skeleton races set for Friday and two-man and two-woman bobsleigh contests due on Saturday.
