Val Thorens is scheduled to be the scene of men's and women's races as the new International Ski Federation (FIS) Ski Cross World Cup season continues.

Two sets of World Cup races are scheduled - one tomorrow and one on Sunday (December 19).

Sweden's David Mobärg leads the men's standings, after winning the season-opening contest in Arosa in Switzerland earlier this week and placing fourth in the second race at the same venue.

The 21-year-old, who had never won a World Cup event before, has 150 points.

Compatriot Viktor Andersson, winner of the second contest, has 120 points in second and Switzerland's Alex Fiva 109 in third.

Fiva was the 2012-2013 champion.

Fanny Smith, another Swiss skier and last season's overall runner-up, has 180 points to lead the women's standings.

Smith won the second contest in Arosa and was runner-up in the first.

With defending women's World Cup champion Sandra Näslund of Sweden absent from Val Thorens, Smith has so far capitalised on the opening that offers.

Smith also won one of two World Cup races at this resort last season.

After Val Thorens, an FIS Ski Cross World Cup is not scheduled until January 15.
