International Sambo Federation (FIAS) President Vasily Shestakov has visited the site where the International Sambo Center is currently being built in Russian capital Moscow.

Shestakov was joined by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and the pair inspected the building site.

The venue is set to have a three-mat competition hall with space for 1,600 spectators when completed.

A training hall with three wrestling mats, a fitness pool, a fitness centre, a games room and medical rehabilitation facilities are also set to feature.

There will additionally be a museum section dedicated to the history of sambo.

The venue's architecture will allow competitions to be watched from the outside too, with mirrored ceilings reflecting the action out onto the street.

Construction of similar buildings in France, Japan and Bulgaria was studied before the plans were finalised.

"No similar sports buildings have been built yet [for sambo]," Shestakov said.

"Here we will be able to hold international class competitions."

The International Sambo Center is being built in the Luzhniki area of Moscow, which also includes the Luzhniki Olympic Complex, and is due to be completed by the end of next year.

There will also be boxing facilities at the venue, being placed opposite the sambo facilities.
