The Magyars secured their second win from as many group games as they overcame the South Americans 44-18 at the Dr Hassan Moustafa Indoor Sports Complex in the 6^th of October City in Group A.

That was the only match played in the group today following the cancellation of the fixture between Cape Verde and Germany because positive coronavirus tests left the African nation unable to field a team.

Germany were awarded a 10-0 win by walkover while Cape Verde called up extra players to ensure they were not thrown out of the competition – which could happen if they miss three matches.

Two tight matches were played out in Group B at the New Capital Sports Hall in Cairo, with Spain overcoming Poland 27-26 to book their main round berth.

The one point victory means Spain top the group as the other game was an even tighter affair – with Tunisia and Brazil playing out a 32-32 draw.

In Group C, Qatar reached the main round after narrowly beating Japan 31-29 at the Borg Al Arab Sports Hall in Alexandria.

Japan led by a goal at the break 16-15 but Qatar turned it around to win by two goals and progress to the next phase of the competition after claiming a second straight victory.

The other game in Group C saw Croatia beat Angola 28-20 to book their place in the main round.

Croatia only led by a point at the interval but pulled away in the second half to secure a berth in the main round.

In Group D, Argentina reached the main round after beating Bahrain 24-21 at the Cairo Stadium Sports Hall.

Both teams led during the second half of a closely fought contest but the South Americans regained the lead three minutes from the end as they went on to claim a three goal victory.

In the other game world champions Denmark comfortably beat DR Congo 39-19 in a one-sided encounter.

Tomorrow sees eight more group games scheduled, with teams in Groups E, F, G and H due to play their second matches of the group phase.
