Russia dominated the cross-country sprints at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships ©JWSC2021

Russia's Alexander Terentev won the men's under-23 sprint events at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Vuokatti.

Terentev won the sprint by a large margin, crossing the line in 3mins 01.72secs to triumph at the Finnish resort. 

His nearest opponent was Aron Åkre Rysstad of Norway in 3:07.26, while compatriot Sergey Ardashev was third in 3:09.42. 

Russia was set for another gold and bronze medal in the women's under-23 sprint, but Anastasiya Faleeva, who completed the course in 2:37.48, was disqualified for changing track in the final straight. 

Lisa Lohmann of Germany was upgraded to gold for her time of 2:38.07, with Russia's Hristina Matsokina moving up to second place in 2:38.53. 

"Today is really cold and I am really happy I got a medal," Matsokina said. 

Louise Lindström of Sweden was the bronze medallist.

The men's Nordic combined contest was taking place simultaneously in the capital Lahti.

Austria's Johannes Lamparter, a regular in the International Ski Federation Nordic Combined World Cup, was the victor.

He held his lead from the jumping round, utilising a seven second advantage to finish in 26mins 24.3secs. 

Matteo Baud of France was second in 27:13.7 and was followed by Stefan Rettenegger of Austria in 27:20.2. 

There was more success for Austria in the men's ski jumping, won by Niklas Bachlinger.

The 19-year-old jumped 96 metres and 95.5m to score 263.9 points. 

Fellow Austrian David Haagen was just 0.6 points behind after also jumping 96m and 95.5m.

Switzerland's Dominik Peter completed the podium with 261.5 points after jumps of 97.5m and 95m. 

Norway's Thea Minyan Bjoerseth was the victor in the women's ski jump, managing jumps of 98m and 92m to score 239.0.

Josephine Pagnier of France was in second after jumping 90m and 91m to achieve 218.5. 

Completing the podium was Jerneja Brecl with 213.0, having jumped 89.0m and 91.5m.
