American Amanda Sobhy has welcomed confirmation that the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour season will resume next month.

The PSA confirmed earlier this month that the CIB Black Ball Squash Open will launch the second half of the season, which has been heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The PSA platinum event will take place at the Black Ball Sporting Club from March 12 to 25.

The Black Ball Squash Open will be the first World Tour event of 2021, having also concluded the 2020 calendar in December.

"I’m really excited, I was hoping we could get a tournament in March just because it would give us something to work towards," Sobhy, the top ranked American player and world number seven, said.

"I have been pretty happy doing my own thing and have been coaching a bit but although I have had some sort of structure, routine and I guess purpose, to now be able to get back to what I love, which is train full-time and play at tournaments, is the best news and I’m just really happy."

Sobhy added: "Thankfully, Egypt just keeps coming through for us and I love the Black Ball event.

"I’ve had decent results there and my dad Khaled lives a five-to-10-minute drive from the Black Ball Club and I stay with him along with my sister Sabrina.

"It’s a bit of a home-from-home and I’m looking forward to getting back out there next month."

Sobhy earned a dramatic victory over world number one Nour El Sherbini on her way to reaching the semi-finals of the women’s event in December.

She suffered a four-game defeat to Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy in the semi-finals.

The upcoming women’s tournament will be held from March 12 to 18, with England’s Sarah-Jane Perry the defending champion.

Egypt’s Fares Dessouky will seek to retain his title in the men's event, due to follow from March 19 to 25.
