The ISSF World Cup Shotgun event in Cairo will begin tomorrow ©ISSF

Cairo is poised to host an International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shotgun World Cup event, with skeet action beginning tomorrow.

Egypt’s capital city is following on from the ISSF Grand Prix in Rabat, which was the first official ISSF competition held during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was held under safety protocols in the Moroccan city, with the ISSF saying it received a positive response from athletes.

Competition in Cairo is set to be held at the Egyptian Shooting Club, located in the 6th of October region of the capital.

The venue is located 15 kilometres from the Pyramids of Giza.

Alina Fazylzyanova is among the starters in the women’s skeet competition, with the Russian hoping to add to her victory in Rabat.

Compatriots Zilia Batyrshina and Anna Zhadnova completed the podium in Rabat and have both made the trip to Cairo.

Slovakia’s London 2012 bronze medallist Danka Bartekova is also listed amongst the women’s skeet field.

Cyprus’ Georgios Achilleos, the 2007 world champion and 2017 World Championship bronze medallist, will feature in the men’s skeet competition.

Both the men’s and women’s individual competitions will begin tomorrow, with the finals scheduled for Thursday (February 25).

Team competitions will also begin tomorrow with finals taking place on Friday (February 26).

The programme also includes international mixed team competitions, which will allow athletes who do not have a pair from their country to compete together for the first time.

The final of the mixed team event will conclude on Saturday (February 27).

Attention will turn to trap competitions next week with two days of individual competition to conclude on March 2, with the mixed team event ending the following day.

Men’s and women’s team events will bring the World Cup to a close on March 4.
