The French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) has changed the dates of the first edition of its Masters Games, which has been billed as part of a Paris 2024 legacy initiative.

The Games was initially scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 2.

A decision was taken to move the Games to October 1 to 3 amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Games is due to take place in Vichy.

The national multi-sport event is intended for over 25s and open to all ability levels.

"Imagined by the CNOSF as part of its "Legacy" programme for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the concept will promote the practice of sport for all at all ages," the CNOSF said.

"Among the sports on offer, everyone will be able to choose five events from a programme that includes fourteen and share a unique experience, between performance and discovery."

The CNOSF say the Masters Games will offer a new approach in terms of participation, with five events scheduled in less than three days.

"These three days of immersion in Vichy on a green sports plateau of 500 hectares will be the opportunity to spend an exceptional moment dedicated to sports practice, combining competition and conviviality and to federate a real community around this unprecedented event," the CNOSF said.

"At the heart of the various competition venues, a Village will host this sporting event on a daily basis for the greatest number and accompanying persons.

"The sports programme will be punctuated by visits to discover the territory, shows and musical times which will make these first Masters Games a truly exceptional event."

The programme features 12 sports, with three classed as mass start competitions.

Participants can compete in indoor rowing, basketball, biathlon, six or 12 kilometre running events, an urban orienteering race or a cycling competition.

Disc golf, Nordic walking, pétanque, stand up paddle and archery events are also planned.

Athletes are also able to compete in either a 1,500m open water swim or 100m in a swimming pool.

Members of the public can enter individually or as a team, with members of their club, company, family or friends.
