With events set to take place tomorrow and Saturday (March 13) in Åre in Sweden, the slalom title could be decided, with two of the three races left this season set for this weekend.

Vlhová holds a 45-point lead over Shiffrin in the slalom, while Austria's Katharina Liensberger sits just 70 behind.

There will be added attention on this weekend following the controversy at the Slovakian resort, where Shiffrin was left waiting for a gate to be fixed for two-and-a-half minutes, just after Vlhová took the lead in the giant slalom.

Shiffrin called the the delay "unprofessional", with organisers in Jasna refuting the accusations.

The Slovakian took gold while Shiffrin won bronze.

Two wins for Vlhová would give her a lead of at least 85 points if Shiffrin won silver on both occasions, leaving 100 points left in the final round of the season.

Liensberger has been a dark horse this season in the slalom and was second or third on the podium in the first five races of the season, eventually ending her streak in Jasna.

The 23-year-old has yet to win a World Cup race, but strong performances this weekend could keep her in the hunt for the Crystal Globe.

Swiss skiers Michelle Gisin and Wendy Holdener have both made the podium twice this season in the slalom and could pick up some important points.

Vlhová is also just 36 points behind the Swiss overall World Cup leader Lara Gut-Behrami; and will be expected to retake the lead in her favoured event ahead of the final round of races in Lenzerheide in Switzerland.

Gisin could consolidate the overall bronze position in one of her best events too, who sits more than 120 points ahead of Italian Marta Bassino.
