The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has confirmed the cancellation of two tournaments in North America, and that this year's Asian Championships will not be held before the Olympic qualification window closes.

July's US Open and the Canada Open - scheduled beforehand, from June 29 to July 4 - will not be played this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The former was a BWF Tour Super 300 event, and the Canada open a BWF Tour Super 100 tournament.

Badminton's global governing body also confirmed that the Badminton Asia Championships would not take place before June 15.

The event was due to be played in late April and early May, meaning it would contribute to Olympic qualifying, but China withdrew as host and Badminton Asia has so far been unable to find a replacement.

If it is played in 2021 it will be after June 15, the date from which the Olympic rankings will be used to allocate Tokyo 2020 berths.

No replacement tournament will be added to the calendar.

Kyiv is still scheduled to host European Championships before Olympic qualifying closes and Guatemala City is slated to stage Pan American Championships.

An undetermined location in South Africa is penciled in to host the African Championships, but the COVID-19 situation in the country would appear to leave the event in serious doubt.
