New dates have been confirmed for a figure skating test event ahead of this year’s Winter Universiade in Swiss city Lucerne.

The Swiss Championships is now set to be held on November 27 and 28 – two weeks before the International University Sports Federation’s (FISU) flagship event is due to start.

Lucerne's regional ice centre was initially scheduled to stage the Swiss Championships on February 19 and 20.

It was intended to serve as a test event for the Winter Universiade.

But Swiss Ice Skating decided in mid-January to call off the Swiss Championships because of the global health crisis.

Switzerland has recorded more than 577,000 cases, resulting in more than 10,000 deaths since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Lucerne had been due to host this year’s Winter Universiade from January 21 to 31 but competition was pushed back to December 11 to 21 as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

A total of 10 sporting disciplines are set to be contested at Lucerne 2021 with events due to be held across seven venues.

Figure skating competitions are expected to run from December 17 to 20 in Lucerne.

Russia topped the figure skating medal table at Krasnoyarsk 2019 with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
