Student Sport Ireland (SSI) has elected Matthew Dossett, deputy head of sport at Trinity College in Dublin, as its new President.

Dossett takes over from Carmel Lynch, who had served in the role from 2019, having previously held the position of honorary chairperson from 2014.

Having previously served for the SSI on the High-Performance Committee, and more recently as Finance and Governance Committee chairperson, Dossett has been involved in the sports industry for two decades, holding various positions in sports development, management, and leadership predominantly in university sport across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

A former ski racer and coach, he holds a BSc in Sports Science, as well as an MSc in Sports Management, and in his current position at Trinity College, Dublin, he oversees the advancement and delivery of the strategy for sport.

"I would like to thank the Board for their support," Dossett said.

"I am really looking forward to working with all our members and stakeholders in implementing our new strategy and helping us steer through the challenges and opportunities ahead.

"As we emerge from the current global crisis, sport will be more important than ever in providing both inspiration and engagement, as well as enabling a growing active and healthy population."

University College, Dublin’s PhD student Catherine Mahony was re-elected as the SSI’s vice-president.
