Southeast Asian Games taekwondo gold medallist Pauline Lopez has taken part in an inspiring online campaign for young people in the Philippines, in a bid to create a new generation of athletes.

The initiative, in cooperation with chocolate milk brand MILO Philippines, hopes to create a legacy for children.

The campaign is called "Mula Noon, Hanggang Ngayon - Tuloy ang Pagiging Champion", translated into English as "From Then, Until Now - Continue to be a Champion".

Lopez is joined by Barcelona 1992 bronze medallist and Philippine Taekwondo Association deputy secretary Stephen Fernandez in leading the programme.

Fernandez won the bronze medal when taekwondo was still considered a demonstration event at the Olympic Games.

"I take great inspiration from the athletes before me to pursue my dreams," said Lopez, according to Filipino online news site The Journal.

"Because of taekwondo, I get to emulate the positive characteristics - such as discipline, confidence and determination - that made our great athletes who they are today.

"I hope in the future that I can do the same for the younger generation of taekwondo players.

"I want to keep and share the champion spirit."

Lopez is hoping to compete at the rearranged Tokyo 2020 Olympics by coming through the Asian qualifying event.

Nestlé Philippines-MILO assistant vice-president Lester P. Castillo said that a number of sports people come through MILO's programmes.

This includes Tokyo 2020 Olympic gymnast Carlos Yulo, international taekwondo star Japoy Lizardo and volleyball player Alyssa Valdez.
