The Fistball World Tour's 2021 season has been cancelled in its entirety because of the coronavrius pandemic.

It joins much of the 2020 Fistball World Tour season in falling victim to the pandemic.

The International Fistball Association (IFA) still hopes to put on World Tour Finals in September, however, for 2020's best teams, and says it is in negotiations with a potential host in Austria.

Birmingham in Alabama had been due to host the World Tour Finals in 2020 - a year before the World Games - before the global health crisis threw a wrench into those plans.

"Our aim was to start a Fistball World Tour only under fair circumstances," said Winfried Kronsteiner, chair of the IFA Sports Commission.

"Currently it is not possible to carry out a World Tour because of national restrictions which are different from country to country.

"Together with the cancellation of the Major events in South America and most likely also in Europe this spring, we decided to cancel this year’s World Tour season and restart the World Tour in 2022.

"In many countries Fistball clubs are closed and training is not permitted.

"So a World Tour under the same circumstances for all teams and hosts is not possible."

The Fistball World Tour is a series of tournaments held across the globe, falling into four categories - IFA Majors, IFA 750, IFA 250, and IFA 100 - which offer ranking points.

The tour offers up to eight high-ranking teams the chance to earn a place at the World Tour Finals along with continental champions.

It was launched in 2019 and TSV Pfungstadt and TSV Dennach - both German - respectively won the men's and women's World Tour Finals in 2019.
