The Championships were initially scheduled to take place from February 7 to 20 2021 before being postponed to November 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event is now scheduled to take place from January 8 to 23 2022.

"Once we announced the postponement of the World Championships, our focus shifted to confirming the new competition dates as quickly as possible," said World Para Sports managing director Christian Holtz.

"Now athletes and teams can better plan their activities in the lead-up to Lillehammer 2021, while the Organising Committee and their stakeholders have more certainty to take the necessary steps to deliver a fantastic event."

The Championships will keep the name Lillehammer 2021 despite the move to 2022.

It will be the first time that Para-Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and snowboard World Championships are hosted at the same time and venue.

The event is set to be the largest Para-sport competition in Norway since the city hosted the Winter Paralympic Games in 1994.

"The entire Norwegian sports movement, the city of Lillehammer and everyone at the Organising Committee can't wait to welcome all the amazing athletes from all around the world to the first ever World Para Snow Sports Championships," said Lillehammer 2021 Organising Committee director Ola Kuel.

"The Organising Committee now works to fulfil our original goals and the plans for the event that we had pre-COVID.

"With the Championships now taking place about eight weeks before the Beijing 2022 ParalympicGames, we are optimistic that the next season will be an all-time high for the athletes with increased - and well-deserved - awareness of Para Snow Sports in general."

Around 750 participants from over 30 countries are set to compete at the Championships.
