Samu Salminen and Niko Huuhtanen scored twice in their side's rout of a hapless German outfit at Comerica Center.

Ville Koivunen, Samu Tuomaala, Sami Paivarinta, Joakim Kemell, Viljami Juusola and Aleksi Malinen also got in on the act for the four-time under-18 world champions.

Victory preserved Finland's unbeaten run at the tournament and means they will secure top spot in the group - and the more favourable quarter-final opponent that comes with it - if they beat the United States tomorrow.

"It's a big game for us, it's a big game for the US," said Finland coach Petri Karjalainen.

"It was maybe harder for us today to keep our composure and play a very simple hockey, be effective and score goals. 

"Tomorrow, I think we will have a hunger. 

"We want to get a good game against the States and get the results we want."

Canada eased to a 7-0 victory over Switzerland to earn their third straight win in Group A at Children's Health StarCenter.

Five power-play goals helped Canada continue their impressive start at the event and they will seal first place if they defeat Belarus in their last group game.

"They're a hard-working team and a good skating team," said Canada's coach Dave Barr. 

"They were not an easy opponent.

"I thought we did a good job defending. 

"We limited their o-zone time. 

"That's the biggest reason we kept them off the board. 

"We kept them to the outside and our goalie didn't give up any rebounds. 

"It was a good win for us, and it wasn't easy."
