The Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) has agreed to a partnership with the Fondazione Umanitaria Italiana Taekwondo (FUIT) - to mutually promote humanitarian activities.

Both parties will exchange ideas and know-how and help each other raise funds for their respective initiatives and projects.

FUIT - which translates as the Italian Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation - will strengthen the presence of the THF in Italy and the European Union.

The deal was signed during an online ceremony today.

"We are delighted to sign this cooperation agreement with Fondazione Umanitaria Italiana Taekwondo and strengthen the THF's presence in Italy and throughout the European Union," said Chungwon Choue, the chairman of the THF and the President of World Taekwondo.

"Our objective is to support as many refugees as possible through taekwondo and so it is important we work with partners who can provide knowledge and networks in specific markets and continents.

"We share many values with FUIT and have enjoyed close collaboration on projects in the past.

"Through this cooperation agreement we will be able to strengthen our partnership and ensure that we are maximising our reach for our humanitarian activities."

The THF works to teach the sport to refugees and displaced people around the world.

Its flagship academy is at Jordan's Azraq camp, which is home to Syrians who have fled the conflict in their country.

Other projects have started in countries such as Rwanda, Djibouti, Turkey and Colombia.

"I am very happy to have achieved this goal, both President Choue and I strongly wanted Italy, after Switzerland, to have an official representation of the THF-Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation in Italy and in the European Union," said Angelo Cito, the Italian Taekwondo Federation (FITA) President.

"I'm very proud.

"It wasn't easy, but I did it.

"The decision to bring THF to Italy was born from the desire to put taekwondo at the service of people and especially children in difficulty.

"Taekwondo is a wonderful discipline which, in addition to being an Olympic sport of which the FITA is the official federation, is a universal discipline and for everyone.

"My greatest desire was to promote the THF to Italy which will have as its main purpose the exploration of the values and principles of brotherhood and integration of taekwondo at the service of society.

"I warmly thank President Choue for sharing this project with me from the very beginning."

The THF now plans to sign more cooperation agreements with the aim of enhancing its presence across all five continents.
