Great Britain's Louise Sugden is looking to build on her silver medal won earlier this season with a victory at the World Para Powerlifting World Cup leg in Tbilisi in Georgia.

Sugden is set to compete in the women's under-86-kilogram category.

Speaking to Newbury Today, she spoke about her anticipation to get back competing.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back on the platform so soon after Manchester," said Sugden.

"I didn't expect to be competing again so soon but I'm grateful for the opportunity to travel to this competition.

"While I'm always looking to bring home a medal, my goal for this competition is to improve on my technical performance from Manchester.

"If I'm able to do that, I hope that I can match or improve on my medal from Manchester."

The 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medallist will be continuing her preparations ahead of this year's re-arranged Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

"My recent training block has been really productive and I'm excited to see the progress I've made in the last month when I get out on that platform," added Sugden.

"The World Cup in Tbilisi might be my last opportunity to compete before the end of qualification due to Dubai being on the travel red list so I need to make the most of the opportunity.

"The remainder of the qualification period is about defending my current ranking.

"I'm in a strong position but a lot of my competitors haven't been able to travel to competitions so I still don't know what impact the pandemic has had on their training."

This is set to run over five days, starting tomorrow and ending on Sunday (May 23).

It is the fourth of five World Cups this season, ahead of the season ender at the Fazza Dubai World Para Powerlifting World Cup from June 19 to 24.

There will be 10 men's and 10 women's weight categories, as well as a mixed team event which is due to be held on the last day of the competition.

All athletes must have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure to Tbilisi and will be required to take two further tests after arriving in Georgia.
