This year's West Asia Baseball Cup has been delayed until September because of coronavirus concerns.

Iran was due to host the tournament in July but organisers have opted to move the event back by two months.

New dates for the competition in Karaj will be announced at a "later stage".

Participating countries had expressed concerns about the COVID-19 status in the region, organisers said.

One of the teams involved is India, the current epicentre for the virus worldwide.

Hosts Iran, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine and Sri Lanka are the others teams due to take part.

Sri Lanka are the defending champions after beating Pakistan 5-4 in the 2019 final.

The country hosted the event at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse Baseball Stadium near Colombo, and defended the title they won in Islamabad in Pakistan in 2017.

The 2019 event was also moved in the calendar to avoid a clash with the Cricket World Cup.
