After impressing in the youth events on the opening day of competition yesterday, Russian athletes continued to top the podium today in the Cypriot city.

Three of Russia’s triumphs came in the women’s events with Elmira Kakhramanova crowned 50-kilogram champion after defeating Belarusian Viktoryia Mazhuha in the final.

The bronze medals were won by Armenian Ruzanna Balasanyan and Myroslava Savchenko of Ukraine after semi-final losses.

Ekaterina Tsybert succeeded for Russia in the 59kg class after overcoming another Belarusian opponent in Anastasiya Padaliachyna.

Mariia Kunevych of Ukraine and Antonia Koleva of Bulgaria claimed the other two podium places available.

Elena Allenova became the third Russian woman to top the podium when she downed Milica Cvijic in the 80kg final.

Iryna Lohoida of Ukraine and Palina Hramatneva of Belarus earned the bronze medals.

Nataliia Chystiakova denied Russia a fourth gold when the Ukrainian saw off Liudmila Naletova in the 72kg final.

The bronze medals went to Nastassia Skvartsova of Belarus and Ivana Gordic of Serbia.

Romania’s Bianca Elena Prodan captured the 80kg gold after proving too strong for Belarus’ Valeryia Khrushchova.

Diana Piskunova increased Russia’s medal tally with a bronze which was also won by Ukraine’s Kateryna Chovhun.

Germany also tasted success in the women’s event as Lisa Oberfoll defeated Anna-Maria Manusheva to secure the 65kg title.

Valeriia Biriuchenko of Ukraine and Jelena Tasic shared third spot to complete the podium.

In the men’s event, Russia also notched three golds with Ivan Lukanin triumphing in the 79kg class after downing Oleksii Lypko of Ukraine in the final.

Semi-final places for Georgian Davit Meshveliani and Belarusian Eduard Kutsko saw the duo both strike bronze.

Daniil Zhdanov clinched another gold for Russia in the 88kg category following victory over Georgia’s Zaur Dvalashvili.

Dan Gorban bagged a bronze for Moldova while Ukraine’s Mikhailo Shapovalov also secured a medal of the same colour.

Andrrei Veselov landed Russia’s sixth gold of the day when he defeated Yevhenii Panych in the 98kg final.

Georgia’s Giorgi Chagelishvili and Belarus’ Mikita Besman earned bronze medals.

Ilya Ilin and Malik Gadzhimuradov reached the finals of the 64kg and 71kg divisions respectively but were forced to settle for silver.

Georgia’s Elizbar Turkia beat Ilin, while Ilia Lomivorotov of Belarus defeated Gadzhimuradov.

Elvin Baghirov of Azerbaijan and Valiantsin Sidzenka of Belarus both clinched bronze in the 64kg category while Vladyslav Kholod of Ukraine and Daviti Bakhbakhashvili of Georgia shared third place in the 71kg class.

Davit Hovsepyan claimed Armenia’s first gold with victory against Nijat Mammadli of Azerbaijan in the 58kg final.

The bronze medals were picked up by Yurii Yaremchuk of Ukraine and Andrei Onishchenko of Russia.

Azerbaijan came out on top in the over-98kg final when Toghrul Salmanov beat Mykola Hrybyk of Ukraine.

Magomedemi Saidulkhanov added another medal for Russia with bronze which was also won by Georgia's Daviti Baadavadze.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with the men’s and women’s senior events.
