Two weeks after setting a world record of 6.02 metres in Nottwil, the 25-year-old, who is making her debut in these Championships, produced fifth and sixth rounds of 6.04 and 6.06m.

It was little wonder she looked overwhelmed at her achievement after getting the evening session of day four off to a rocking start.

The morning session had also seen a long jump world record as Hungary’s world champion Luca Ekler successfully defended her T38 title by equalling her own world mark of 5.51m.

Swiss wheelchair racer Marcel Hug retained his men’s 800m T54 title in one of the most competitive races of the day, clocking a championship record of 1min 37.20sec.

French wheelchair racer Pierre Fairbank earned his third gold as he come home in the men’s 800m T53 final in a season’s best of 1:45.59.

Russia’s world record holder and world champion Andrei Vdovin also claimed a third gold as he came home in the men’s 200m T37 final.

Britain’s Daniel Pembroke won the men’s javelin throw F13 with a European record of 66.75m and the women’s shot put F32 also produced a new European mark as Russia’s Evgeniia Galaktionova threw 6.95m.

Galaktionova’s effort was clearly inspirational as three more European records fell to her compatriots in the last three events of the day.

Aleksandr Rabotnitskii clocked 3:54.36 for the men’s 1500m T20 event, Anton Kuliatin recorded 3:46.97 for the men’s 1500m T13 category, and Russia then won the Universal 4x100m relay title in 47.67sec.

Other highlights of the morning session included Adiaratou Iglesias from Spain winning her second gold as she took the women’s 400m T13 title in a European record of 55.70.

Zoran Talic from Croatia and Thomas Geierspichler from Austria won their fourth consecutive European titles.

Talic won the men’s long jump T20 with a season’s best of 7.20m while Geierspichler earned victory in the men’s 1500m T52 in 4:18.14.
