The United States remain the only unbeaten side in the women’s Volleyball Nations League after Turkey’s run of wins ended today.

On the eighth day of women’s competition at Rimini in Italy Turkey lost their unbeaten streak in the second game of the day.

The Dominican Republic defeated Turkey 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17 to leave the US as the only unbeaten side.

The US recorded their eighth win from as many matches later in the day as they comfortably overturned South Korea 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.

The US are clear at the top of the table with 24 points, with Brazil moving into second place ahead of Turkey on points difference after overcoming Belgium in the final game of the day.

Brazil’s 25-18, 25-16, 25-17 victory puts them on 21 points, two points clear of Turkey, with both nations having recorded seven wins so far.

The Netherlands sit fourth in the standings on 18 points after recording their sixth win with a five set victory over Poland 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 15-9.

Also on six wins but a point behind the Dutch are Japan who overcame Canada in straight sets 25-16, 25-15, 25-15 to move to 17 points.

Russia are next in the table with 13 points, recording their fifth win when they beat Thailand in the opening game of the day 25-14, 18-25, 25-14, 25-20.

In the day’s other games Serbia defeated China 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22 while hosts Italy beat Germany 25-21, 25-19, 25-11.

The ninth round of women’s matches, the last before a three-day break to allow the men’s competition to resume, is scheduled for tomorrow, with the US aiming to maintain their unbeaten run against Italy.
